Sure seems like a good way to be socially responsible and also market your product and company image as the "more socially responsible choice"? Perhaps.

But if you look at in another way, if you DON'T download IE8, Microsoft will withhold those additional 8 meals, yes, like a ransom.

"Download IE8 or you won't see your starving children ever again"

On the other extreme, what if hackers hijack computers and start downloading IE8 with rogue systems non-stop. This might mean Microsoft might actually go bankrupt giving meals?
